Organisation/Boards

The Europäische Akademie zur Erforschung von Folgen wissenschaftlich-technischer Entwicklungen gGmbH (European academy for the study of the consequences of scientific and technological advance) was created as a non-profit corporation with limited liability in 1996. The Europäische Akademie is mainly financed by allowances granted by the Bundesland Rheinland-Pfalz and the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR)). Furthermore, a number of third-party funds are received, for example from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). Orders and grants from individual sponsors also help finance the projects of the Europäische Akademie.
The Managing Director is Professor Dr. phil. Dr. phil.h.c. Carl Friedrich Gethmann, a full professor of Applied Philosophy at the Universität Duisburg-Essen. The Partners´ Assembly has formed a Managing Committee to which two representatives of the partners belong. It also nominated a Scientific Advisory Board, which supports the Europäische Akademie in elaborating its scientific goals and projects as well as in evaluating research results. The members of the different working groups form the Council of the academy, which is a forum for scientific exchange on subjects concerning the activities of the Europäische Akademie.
