Electronic Signatures. Cultural Rules and Moral Responsibility

Electronic signatures are broadly seen as the basic technology of secure and legally binding digital communication and the world of e-commerce. In order to guarantee the reliability and trust-worthiness of technically-mediated communication in open networks as well as between anonymous partners, high expectations are put on the technical and legal formation of the technology.
In addition, this highly complex technology raises new economic, sociological, psychological and philosophical questions: With the transition from the handwritten to the electronic signature (nothing less than a global culture-change), this formation necessitates an interdisciplinary and international perspective.
