Methodological Elements of Biological Sciences
24.3.1999
Initially, the basic differences between P. Griffiths’ preferred concept of “natural kind” and M. Gutman's & P. Janich’s proposed concept of “cultural kind” were discussed. Subsequently, the application of the respective methodological differences to questions about the status of kind, population, and gene were examined. Agreement on terminological analyses, like the concept of gene by P. Griffiths and E. M. Neumann-Held, was reached.
Participants: Professor Dr. Griffiths (University of Sydney, Australia), Dr. Mathias Gutmann, Dr. Eva Neumann-Held.
