Animal Welfare as a National Objective?
14.1.2000
This workshop was hosted by the Europäische Akademie in co-operation with the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft and the Max-Delbrück-Zentrum (MDC) in Berlin-Buch. Over the past years there has been a growing call for an inclusion of animal protection into the constitution. Although the main idea of this claim is to protect animals in farming, scientists are worried that this may also impede their research. During this workshop, scientists who work with animal experiments, legal experts, and philosophers discussed with animal welfare activists the consequences of including animal protection in the constitution.
Participants: Priv.-Doz. Dr. Birchmeier-Kohler (MDC), Professor Dr. Gethmann (Europäische Akademie), Dr. de Angelis (GSF), Professor Dr. Lower (Universität Bonn), Dr. Spielmann (BGVV).
